Draw the bike, do not 'push' the bike out an obstacle.

Whether you actually have a desire to use these skills on your next adventure, or you just want to know what to do when confronted by a low water bridge.

Maybe you just want to know these essential techniques so that riding out in the cuds is less fearsome.

Make use of this opportunity, it will not happen again for quite a while.

At the traffic lights on the N2 @ S/West today I saw a R 1200 GS on trailer on the shoulder with peeps fiddling.

I stopped to see if they required assistance.

No, just checking the securing straps.

Two things really made me just wonder.   a fantastic trip ending early when it could have gone on.

What pity guys, hope to see you soon again on Saturday.

Firstly the bike was on a trailer as the trip had ended  on Gannaga pass because his torsion bar- tensions strut on the swing arm had "Kinked" under load jumping a rut"

This is the tension strut.

Under a massive shock it has been known to kink.

If you are resourceful you can do a budgy job in the field and repair it by splinting it with tyre irons and cables ties.

There is a technique.

(Gavin and Paul, please send photos if you read this post. sorry guys)

Wayne and Jo have done this out in the cuds... using a piece of fence dropper.

I have done this on a bike out in Nam.

And both times the guys rode full trip and had the strut replaced once home.

So another trip here was ended prematurely because the riders had not stopped and considered all their options.

The second thing was they had already broken two tie downs due to improper securing and damn near lost the bike!!!

It took a few minutes to show them how to secure the bike so it remained safely on the trailer and DID NOT SCUFF THE PAINT WORK RAW WITH WEBBING CHAFE.

Do not let your trip end early when you actually can keep it alive.

Come join us next Saturday and pick some inspirational tips on how to keep your tour alive.

Will you ride?    No.

Upon arrival, registration, coffee & rusks.

Then a short talk on self rescue before splitting into three groups.

your group will rotate between the three sets of instructors, each covering  different parts of the course.

Then we end up by watching me ride a bike into the river, across and back and then drowning the bike, ingesting water.  This is to demonstrate how to get water out the engine of the R1200 GS.

By the end of the course you will have a very good idea how to approach water obstacles, how to tow, be towed and how to secure a bike to a trailer.

You will also see what you should take with you on an adventure off tar  that will help you get yourself out of all sorts of trouble.

How to be more resourceful and not just give up.

And special thanks to Donford Motorrad and Shane Hoskins for their support tomorrow.

Check the met,

You'll see that D-Day is in a small window between large cold fronts.

So if ever there was a time to sharpen up on self-rescue and water crossings, it is tomorrow.

Remember to bring along some camping chairs.

Don't worry about breakfast, our hospitality team in the club gazebo will keep you sorted with coffee rusks and are selling hot dogs.

Please no spectators other than family and kids and your dogs.

Let wives, girlfriends an boyfriends meet, chat and see how the club makes riding and adventuring safer and what a great group you hang out with.

Our photographer will capture the many moments , but feel free to click away yourself.
